The Yagua people, numbering around 6,000, are an indigenous group residing in Colombia and northeastern Peru. They inhabit approximately 30 communities dispersed across a region of the Amazon basin in both Peru and Colombia. Their settlements are primarily located near the Amazon River and its tributaries, including the Napo, Putumayo, and Yavari rivers. The Yagua language belongs to the Peba-Yaguan language family. Historically, they shared linguistic ties with the Peba and Yameo languages; however, both of these languages are now considered extinct.
