Just close to the main Bazaar in Marrakesh, is the leather working quarter. It exists a little distance away from other areas of the city, and is far more barren than the most of the rest of the city; as the whole area is a little out of bounds due to the smell. The smell of the leather being worked is something to appreciate. The leather is at different stages of being shaped, and left out all over this area, lying out in the sun or in pools of lime and other chemicals. They give you a sprig of mint to hold up to your nose going in; but the smell is fairly unbearable with the mint or not.
