In 2018, i had cause to visit Poland – I was with a friend called Ryszard, who was Polish, and he from a place called Olszstyn, which is where we were visiting. Olszstyn, is known for its Lakes and is said to be the Lake district of Poland. Olszstyn is a pretty town; some of it reminded me of Amsterdam, with its end-gables and coloured houses, in the city centre. Olszstyn had a castle too, and seemed like a fairly ancient town.

I also visited Gdansk with it ship yards and went to the Lech Wałęsa museum. Gdansk was quite a distance away by train. It surprised me that very few of the locals spoke English, so navigating the train system proved something of a challenge. I made it to Gdansk though without upset and met Ryszard there. We walked around for a few hours and then caught the train back to Olszstyn.

The highlight of my visit to Poland however was Toruń. Toruń, is a very picturesque town, set on the Vistula River, in north-central Poland. It is a tourist resort, and there were big crowds visiting the town at the same time i was. I arrived in a taxi which brought me from the train station but dropped me off on the other side of the main road bridge over the Vistula river and so i had to walk across. Once inside the city, i wondered its streets in amazement, the beauty of this little town was awesome. At the end of the day – i made my way back to the train station and made my way back to Olszstyn to fly home a few days later.
