I visited AĆÆt Ben Haddou, located south of the Atlas Mountains on the way to the desert in Merzouga. This citadel holds strategic importance due to its defensive position against the desert’s historically warring tribes. AĆÆt Ben Haddou served as both a fortress and a financial stronghold. While there, I encountered a musician playing a traditional Gimbri (Lotar), similar to a bass guitar, in the cool shade provided by the city’s fortress walls.
