In 2007 I bought a ticket to Kathmandu, in Nepal, flying from Manchester airport via Dubai to Nepal. I knew nobody there and I was travelling on my own, but for me it was important to take this step into the unknown. When i arrived i stayed in a hotel called the Thamel Guest House, which was very friendly and welcoming. I bought a trek, which is where i met Hari – we were supposed to be doing the Everest Basecamp trek but the weather was too poor to fly to Lukla airport, so we changed our plans and flew to Pokhara, and went trekking in the Annapurna region instead. When i went to Nepal on this occasion I only had a film camera as i had not made the transition to digital at this stage – so i took b&w film, colour and transparency film and then digitised the negatively subsequently. Nepal was amazing – i only staying two weeks but the impression i would take home would last a lifetime.
